Speech therapy includes language and communication
A speech-language assessment considers how a child understands language, expresses needs and ideas, uses speech sounds, participates in interaction and communicates across settings. Therapy goals are selected from the child's functional needs.
Children may communicate through speech, gesture, pictures or a speech-generating system. AAC can be considered alongside speech rather than being reserved only for a last step.
- Understanding language
- Expressing needs and ideas
- Speech clarity
